AN IMMERSIVE POTTERY COURSE

Andrea will teach you the fundamentals of pottery and hand building techniques. Andrea will share with you her own tips and tricks. After this course you will not just learn hand building techniques but learn about the pottery process.

Module 1 - CLAY BODIES & FIRE

There are many varieties of clay around the world, each clay body has different firing temperatures and properties. Before you begin working with clay you must know the clay body you are working with.
Module 2- CLAY PREP

You’ll learn how to prep and wedge your clay. Creating a homogenised clay body to start with will prevent issues in the process.
Module 3- CLAY TOOLS

There are many pottery tools out there. You don’t need them all to start. You can use common tools that you have at home. Andrea will recommend the best ones.
Module 4- TECHNIQUE

Pinch pots, coiling, slab making. We will start with one at a time and work on combining all three methods to make large forms.
Module 5- DRYING

As clay dries and water is evaporating, clay particles shrink together. As the shrinking occurs the clay will warp and can crack. Our job is to do everything possible to prevent cracking.
Module 6- TIPS AND TRICKS

Over the past five years of making Andrea has used lots of tricks to help the pottery process. Andrea will share them with you.

Pottery is technical but once you learn the basics there is room to play within the process.
